Why Hello There

It's really hard to start writing again after a long hiatus. Sometime around 8 months ago, I stopped writing, for many reasons. On the top of the list were two points - this blog wasn't going anywhere, and I wasn't adding anything of value to the internet.

For those of you who haven't read any of my previous writing - it was largely commentary about stuff happening in my life. Attempts at humour, largely uninformed opining about politics and largely uninteresting ramblings about my life in general.

As someone who was lucky enough to grow up with a computer and an internet connection, just around the time of the "internet revolution" I have seen how the internet has transformed the way we communicate. Yet it's all too obvious that the ease with which people can publish the most intimate details of their lives, from the mundane to the shocking, has created a chaotic and contemptible mess. For every blogger who thoroughly researches topics to create posts of value there are ten 14 -year-old girls who can't spell right opening up Myspace pages.

To a lesser extent, that was what the issue with my blog was. While my views on the death penalty are strong, I don't think anyone else really cares. And why should they? There is really no reason for me to publish my philosophical ramblings on the internet - they don't matter.

I decided to stop writing because I really didn't have anything that I knew enough about, enough to add value. The internet is a mess, and me dumping my mind-diarrhea onto the pile wasn't helping.

So why am I back?

That's a post for tomorrow.
